Well, all right if you really think it's going to be all that interesting. Has Teds got anything special planned, then?

By the way, the New London trip was better than the other year's but it was still fairly naff. You'd think after three years they'd come up with new sites to visit.

And there was a completely endless Quidditch match that was more boring than anything I ever watched at school. Not to mention the heat! Those third-year boys have got to learn better deodorising charms, you know?

Anyway. There was nothing to recommend it, honestly. Well, maybe the boat trip. The canapés were much better than I remembered.

Oh, did you hear that Valerie Dunstan's having fits because Elsie was named Head Girl? I mean, it's utterly ridiculous since everyone knew Lares had Head Boy tied with a bow, and it's obvious that that meant the Head Girl would be a Slytherin. Honestly.

Right, so, Friday. Want to get supper first? Leander and Gaia were trying to get some mates together at Bubble and Squeak beforehand and they wouldn't mind a couple more in the party.
alt_padma: (Happy)
I'm sure you're terribly busy as always but I just wanted to say it was beyond nift to get a chance to catch up last night. You look like you're so happy with your life--and it's easy to see why. Ned's such a gentleman and the way your career is going, and all, it's like you've got everything anyone could want. No one could deserve it more.

It really was like a parade of our old schoolmates, wasn't it? Did you happen to see Rohani and Goshal? I spoke to them for all of about five minutes but they're both dead jealous of your wedding (still). Tamblyn's just as amusing as ever, isn't he? He and Cox had me in stitches, tearing apart everyone's robes and all those dusty old witches' frowning whenever the band played something written since 1962. When the King of Misrule told Madam Millingham-Kennilworthy to start a conga line? I've never seen quite that shade of red. Have you?

And I figured out who I expected to see and didn't: Weasley and Clearwater. Of course, I'd wondered whether they'd come anyway so soon after his dad, but given that the other Weasleys were honoured by the Repopulation programme I figured they must be coming. Yet not a sign. I suppose they decided they'd better stay in and save their sickles for a rainy day!

Anyway. It was so good to see you, and see you looking smashing, as always.

Your Friend,

Padma
alt_padma: (loose)
Where are you revising today? Because if I have to sit and listen to Davies go on any longer about how terrible Diggory was to Chang I may just vom.

He brought her round the Corner again this afternoon. And she's still telling anyone who'll listen that Diggory dumped her by journal and he's only thinking about his career and she's 'holding him back' according to what he told her and UGH.

I liked Chang much better when she wasn't such a watering pot. And Davies has been playing the supportive 'friend'--as if he's interested in her as a 'friend'! I hope she knows he's going to dump her too, as soon as something else catches his eye.

Anyway. I just can't go back to the Corner after Prefects' meeting. Where do you reckon we can meet instead?
alt_padma: (Ravenclaw Corner)
I figure you're not likely to be flying today.

I've just been sitting with Marietta and Cho. Cho's a wreck, too. Can you imagine being broken up with over journals?

I warned that that Davies will probably come sniffing; he's just the type to try to nose in on someone getting over a breakup. I don't know if she'll listen, though.

Maybe finding someone to snog silly is just what she needs, anyway.

Did either of you go to Zach's party yesterday? Most of Ravenclaw didn't go because Diggory had just officially told Cho it was over and she came back just when we were about to leave. So we stayed with her.

But Lakshmi, I hope she's not going to stay this upset for long. It can't be good for her to make him think he meant that much.
alt_padma: (Uncertain)
Still cross about not making the side? Only you've not been your usual. You were really quiet at the Prefects' meeting.

Here's something to cheer you up: Why do you suppose Cho Chang was binning a perfectly nice bouquet of flowers just after lunch today?

Three guesses.

First two don't count.

And in other news, I heard that Letchley didn't make it into first string for Slytherin, either. And Anne says she's grounded for about four weeks because of that collision with Smith and Stebbins. (She said she'd like to have hexed them both.)

So maybe it's not such a wonderful season to be playing, anyway. With your luck, Stebbins would knock you off your broom at 100 feet up.
alt_padma: (serious)
almost over. I guess with the time away for the CCF and all, there hasn't been nearly as much loafing about as usual. Which is probably a good thing, overall.

Not that there was all that much loafing about, even normally. But this summer, Pav and I were also helping in the shop. (Mum's said more than once that it would be lovely if one of us took an interest in the business.) It's fun, of course, but it's also a load of work. And Mum recently took on some more help, but if anything, going through the CCF training made things more efficient afterward. I dunno, I'm happy to help out but I'm still leaning toward other things. I think it's important that each of us does our utmost to serve the Protector the best possible way we can. I don't think clothes design is really all I'm capable of, is all.

That doesn't mean we didn't have a grand time designing! Mum's putting a few of our robes into production, even. I wish they'd been ready before the end of the summer but holidays will do. (It's also well strange to be designing things for winter when it's hot and for summer when it's cold, but that's the nature of the business, isn't it?)

Ginny, I think Purest Sparkle might even be interested. I mean, young clothes for the young witch about town? Mum's going to see about it, anyway. If you're still modelling for them that would be really snitch, wouldn't it?

That's not the only news we had this summer. Haruman's brought one particular girl round for supper about half a dozen times. Mum's holding out hope he'll make a Big Announcement any day.

They came tonight, too, but not to make a Big Announcement. Haruman wanted to talk to Dad about something in the papers today. Apparently a Healer that he works with occasionally at St M's turned up dead in Wales yesterday. He was really shaken up about it. Not because he particularly liked the Healer but because so many people have been talking to one another about whether it could have been a murder.

It's kind of disturbing and exciting at the same time, isn't it? I wasn't sure why anyone would want to kill a Healer but Haruman said that to know this Healer was to hate him, basically. And apparently he had a string of patients who were always complaining and Haruman was one of the Jr Healers who sometimes had to calm them down while someone else tracked Healer Stint down and well--he's not surprised if someone got cross enough. Or it could have been an accident, too. He was found at the bottom of a cliff, so he could have fallen (though it's odd he didn't Apparate away, if he fell, right?).

Well, anyway.

School starts in only a week! Has anyone heard more about the 'changes to Dark Arts' that Mr Malfoy mentioned? (I saw that and wondered if anyone had been mad enough to buy their books already--I mean, we've all been waiting to find out what would happen since Miss Professor Carrow died, right?)

Oh, by the way, for Ravenclaw Corner: We're meeting up in Diagon at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon. Seamus, Lav, if you want to join us that's fine. Pav and Su Li are coming too and my cousin Darshana, and Desai as well. Cooper, Bole, if you're interested, come and meet us outside Fortescue's.
alt_padma: (profile)
Just so you know, I really don't have any idea who did it. And I'm sorry that it had to happen at all, but especially this week. Or well, you know what I mean. This time of year.

I saw the drawing, before Anderson got it down off the wall. It was well horrid. (Well, except that whoever drew Ron made his ears look hilarious. Sorry, but it's true. Oh, and Longbottom's buck-teeth were sort of grotesque. But then they are, aren't they? I mean, objectively?)

I think whoever did it might have assumed Seamus or me or Lav would get blamed but we decided last year that you've a right to pick your friends, even if they're nobodies.

I mean, look at Daphs. No one takes the mick out of her because she keeps Milli around and everyone knows it's so Daphne looks even cleverer and prettier by comparison. But Milli's loyal to Daphs and I think they honestly do like each other. And I know it's the same for you and your mates--that you like each other, I mean, not that you picked them because they show you off to good advantage.

Anyway. Just wanted to say. I'm sorry everyone's laughing at you. I hope you find a way to get them back.
alt_padma: (History Club)
So who do you think wrote to that Wagstaff bloke?

Sloper or Capper?

Incidentally, I saw that you wrote to Daphs. Is she okay? She's seemed so quiet lately, and that's not like her at all.

Also, I've been meaning to say, thanks for not making me feel like a dolt for inviting you to Camelot when it was your mum's wedding. I knew it was but I thought since it was in the evening you might not have much to do beforehand. I should have known better! Anyway, even if you couldn't come, I wanted you to know that you'd have been welcome.

And I thought you really handled your mum's wedding and all of that really well. I mean, not that you'd do anything otherwise, but I saw some of the reports about it in Dish and it all looked well grand. Is Cooper nice? He seems nice. I mean, not like some terrifying stepfathers like in a novel. Really normal.

Oh, so what did you think of the mural? I thought it came out all right but there's something...I dunno, sort of common about it. I think traditional portraits are so much more elegant, don't you? But it's also sort of nift the way it sort of changes depending on whether you're looking at it when the staircase is sideways or straight on. And from the 2nd floor instead of the 1st. It's going to take some getting used to, I think.
alt_padma: (Hm)
Is she all right?

I mean, everyone saw the owl struggling with that package and then not three minutes later she rushed out of the Great Hall? It's not hard to guess that something set her off.

Was it from her mum, or what?

Well, let her know we hope she feels better soon, all right? Whatever it was. Oh, and Dunstan says she'll share her notes from Creatures today if you like, since you're missing it as well.
alt_padma: (Smug)
was that about?

Whoever she was, she was well upset, anyway.

Seamus, thanks for the subscriptions! It's so much better to have one's own copy of things like Dish! than to have to wait until other people have read theirs and left it in the common room.

Daphs, Hydra, have you seen this week's? It's got an amazing spread on the Yule Ball and the other holiday parties (including some taken from outside the Malfoys' because I guess they wouldn't let the press in this year. But there were chariot races and you could see the Abraxans over the gate, I guess). Anyway, there're pictures of you both in your robes and some of the others and quite a few of Professors Raz and Siz!

(Professors, I don't know if you're reading this but I think it's perfectly horrifying, all that stuff they're printing that isn't complimentary toward you. I hope that's not too impertinent. I mean, most of us are absolutely happy for you both and hope that things go well for you. It's just like the magazines to make it sound like it's never going to last, or like there are too many obstacles in your way. I don't think that at all! I don't know why Cassie got so jealous, kinda like that madwoman's Howler this morning to Mr Milland, but it's well not on, what she did. And I don't know anyone else who'd even think of such a thing, especially not when it's two professors like yourselves. I think it's inspiring, personally, to see two people your age find romance! And you look so well together--I mean, the pictures are utterly gorge! MUCH better than the ones in the Prophet!)

Anyway, there's loads in this week's issue. I can only imagine what they'll do about the 2nd Task--oh, by the way, Harry, have you figured it out yet? Delacour's said she thinks she knows what to do and I'd hope that Hogwarts' Champions are at least as clever as she thinks she is.
alt_padma: ('splody)
I thought we agreed no more quizzes!

And what in Merlin's name do you mean putting Davies and Page on that list of two-timers? And 'Anyone who dates Patil?' as if the two of them weren't enough? Even if you meant it as a misdirect, Pav, NOT FUNNY.

Honestly. What do you two think you're doing, putting that out in the middle of exams? And when we agreed we'd learned not to do it again?
alt_padma: (Earrings)
that there was a BALL as part of the Tournament back at the start of term!!!

It's going to be amazing, I'm sure! I'm signing up to stay, of course. Anyone else?

And DAPHNE, I've got this week's Dish and--well, you've got to come look at breakfast! You've just got to see it. I can help you with that other project we were discussing, maybe tomorrow evening?

Hogsmeade's this weekend, as well, and I just bet half the visitors will have ball dates by the end of the day Saturday.

This is positively the most exciting thing EVER to happen at Hogwarts! The Tournament's well fun, but really unless you're a champion it's not all that consuming is it? Especially with so much time between tasks. But a BALL, well--that's something everyone can enjoy!!
alt_padma: (Default)
Did you see what Marvolo's mudblood did yesterday? I barely noticed it at the time and then everyone was celebrating and then this morning I opened up my journal and looked back to see what people were saying during the challenge and I saw!

If I were Harry, I'd be well cross, wouldn't you? I can't imagine a servant getting above herself like that! What do you think he'll do to her?

And Lana Sandoval looked just radiant yesterday, didn't she? I think Auror training is honestly the best thing ever for her. She's so happy. And last time she wasn't, did I tell you about that? I'm sure I must have done. She didn't get her intensive with Auror Crouch and she had to work under some crusty old fossil at MLE and she hated every moment. But she spent her time writing papers and she's actually submitted them for publication! Pretty inspiring, I think, as a way to make the best of a bad situation. And now she's got a different intensive with Ms Wright and that must be very agreeable because she really looks amazing.

Plus? She hinted that she might be back over the holidays. It's got to have something to do with the Tri-Wizard Tournament, of course, but what?

Oh, and Lav, Daphs wants help with a project to look through old magazines for articles on someone, you'll never guess, but I can't tell you! It'll just be really interesting to find out what she's trying to learn!
alt_padma: (serious)
I've been thinking that we could make History Club into more of a Charms and Duel Revising night, if we wanted to do, but that maybe we ought to wait until we know more about the Tournament and who the Hogwarts Champion will be. Does that make sense? Or should we keep on even though we haven't had much in the way of new people so far this year? I think more people are going to be interested in exchanging spellbooks than history books, though.

But. I wanted to ask you about something else, too. Not in the Great Hall, there're too many people about.

The thing is...I was in the library last night with Tamblyn, the Moons, Capper and some of the others, and I went to get a copy of the Anthology of Eighteenth Century Charms and I saw Cox, Samuels and Page. I hung back a bit, you know, so I wouldn't bump right into Grant them all. They were talking and sort of chuckling about various people this year, especially people getting all hopeful about the visiting students. Well, a little bit later, Sloper and Ken Towler joined them. And Sloper said--something about Hooper. Geoff Hooper, I mean, not either of his brothers. I don't know if you want to know what it was they said, though.

Well, it wasn't long before Johnson came along and told them all to shut it. But they were all sort of sniggering about it.

It's just--if it's not true, what they said, then Hooper ought to know they're saying it. And if it is true (and Towler would know, wouldn't he, or the Weasley twins, they're all in the same dormitory), then I think you ought to know. Because you spend so much time with him.

So. Do you want me to tell you? Or do you want to talk to him first and see what he says?
alt_padma: (profile)
Lana,

How is your grandmother doing? I hope she's all right. Haruman said he'd call to check on her if you like.

I've been thinking more about everything that happened Monday night and, well, it was all very frightening, but honestly it was also kinda cool to be able to pitch in and help. And I hope I did. Help you, I mean. Setting up the checkpoints and the relay stations. You were amazing, I hope someone's told you!

I'm already incredibly busy being back at Hogwarts, and lessons haven't even started yet! Finnigan and I are continuing History Club, of course, and then we've been talking about some other ideas for the CCF, based on everything coming out of Monday. We got to talking about the IMA and some of the other terrorist groups, and of course, the false Black post and so on, and we came up with a proposal we're working on for Professor Sinistra. (And Professor Raz, really.) It's to do with learning more about the ways one can help decode things in the journals - you know, how some people say that all those posts from the Crimson Company are nothing but encrypted messages to their followers? We want to start a cryptography workshop. I thought perhaps someone from MLE might come and give us pointers. I just think...it's hard when we're reading things in the journals, sorting out what's real from what's just a load of stuff, and no one really tells us much here, they like to just tell us that everything's perfect.

Well, we know that's not true, but the whole point of YPL and CCF is to make it more perfect. And it seems to me that knowing what might be going on below the surface is a good way to do that.

And the Corner is really going strong already. We've been putting together timetables for when to revise what. There's hardly going to be a free night, at this rate!

Now, don't fret at me, but Lares Tamblyn actually told me yesterday that he thought Page acted horribly last year and that if I'd like to sit with him and his brother and the other Prefects at meals and such, that'd be all right. And then he said - well, he said Davies even told Page he'd been beastly, 'and especially to someone as fit as Patil,' was what he told him. Cox and Samuels overheard him in the locker rooms, I guess, after one of their matches. Tamblyn said he figures Davies might like to ask me out but he doesn't want anyone to make a meal of it like they did with Page last year. So he suggested that sitting up with the Prefects would put me close to the Quidditchers but not right in among them, because obviously that would look like I'm just trying to catch Page's eye again. As if I'd give him a second chance to be a gentleman!

Well, I'm not sure what I'll do about it. I don't think Tamblyn's the type to wind one up; if Chambers had told me then I'd be sure she'd just putting a kneazle among the occamies! But I always thought Davies fancied Chang, so I don't know quite whether Tamblyn's really drawing the right conclusions. I mean, it could just be that Davies is too decent to let the side's reputation get tarnished by one player's foolishness. Couldn't it?

But anyway. I thought you'd be interested to hear. What else? Well, you probably already know that Karoline Moon's already quite the mope since Baddock's gone. (Clearwater, too, but she does a better job, at least, of not letting it rule her every conversation. Though, honestly, I think I'd be sick if she did go on and on about Weasley, of all people. By the way, what do you think of them choosing her for Head Girl? You probably don't want to say but personally I think, as much as I'd like to see a Ravenclaw with the job, the Headmistress is rather scraping if Clearwater was her best choice. She's not at all a leader like you were. At least, not so far.) But anyway, Dames says Moon and Baddock wanted to get engaged over the summer, but Baddock's father wouldn't allow it! She's been a mope about that, too. Dames thinks it's not that Mr Baddock objects, really, it's just that he thinks they're too young. I thought perhaps he wasn't happy about the play, from last year, you know, how Ptolemy let Karo put in all the stuff about his parents. But Dames doesn't think so, not really. She says Mr Baddock's far too sensible to hold something like that against someone our age. Well, Karo's age. I asked Lines what he thought about his sister getting engaged to Baddock but he just shrugged. Boys.

Oh, and can you believe there were actually no new Bobolis cousins in this year's firsties? But there are some promising ones. Persephone Sanditon's supposedly got a lovely voice and Orla Quirke dances, I hear. And my own cousin, Darshana, she got sorted into Ravenclaw as well! I'm sure Sanji would have been Sorted

Well, I've really gone on and on, haven't I? I'm sure you've loads of important things you're learning at the Ministry and I haven't even asked what you're specialising in now. Of course, Monday was far from the time to catch up but I hope you'll write back and tell me all the exciting parts of your training nowadays!
alt_padma: (Hm)
Parkinson, is it true that Greengrass sent those roses she got back to whomever sent them? Do you know why?

Only we reckoned they came from Zabini, you know, as a thank-you or whatever for that party she threw for him. Except Dames saw her returning them, so that doesn't make any sense if it was Zabini.

I'd ask her herself but I figure she's probably asleep. And I know you're up late a lot of nights.
alt_padma: (Serious)
Have you heard? Chang was in Ravenclaw Corner this afternoon on account of Dark Arts lessons being cancelled. He said that Mr Malfoy and Miss Professor Carrow had a DUEL last night! In the corridors!

Tamblyn said he heard that Miss Carrow tried to cast the killing curse on Mr Malfoy! But she missed and he Cruciated her to subdue her. But Dames said that's not what she heard, she heard that it was Mr Malfoy who went to try to kill Miss Carrow, on account of her talking to that Londinarium chap. So then we got Moon to come over, and you know she's dating Ptolemy Baddock, and he was there, but she said that he said that it was just a disagreement between them, and they hadn't had their wands out at all. Only no one really believes that.

In fact, Sandoval said that if Mr Malfoy had wanted to cast the killing curse on Miss Carrow, he wouldn't have missed, but he told Moon that it was ridiculous to say there wasn't any kind of duel, because Baddock and Professor Sinistra were there and were sending students away down the corridor in the other direction. And they wouldn't have done that if it had just been an argument. But he didn't think they were casting anything too bad - you know, just usual duelling club kinds of spells, because he couldn't credit they'd go and try to duel to the death right in school where anyone might come along!

Well. Then Laverty, she said she heard that a long time ago, Miss Carrow was after Mr Malfoy, you know, like how Professor Acton was always trying to corner Professor Raz? And she was really in love with him, but he wouldn't have anything to do with her (and can you blame him, really? I mean, who would ever be attracted to Miss Carrow?) and so she's been sending him little 'presents' for years, and finally he tried to send one back to her brother. So he took bottle of firewhiskey that she'd sent him and sent it to Professor Carrow. He didn't realise it was the same one, so he drank it, but it was poisoned! And that's why he went to the hospital wing on Wednesday. So when Mr Malfoy came here yesterday for the Governors' meeting, she waited somewhere between there and the Slytherin common room and she ambushed him in revenge!!!

I sort of want to ask Malfoy, but I know he'll get well shirty if we pry into his father's personal business. I wonder if Parkinson knows anything about it? I mean, a few people said they heard screaming, but then, her brother's in the hospital wing, so maybe she was really overwrought? Anyway. What are they saying up in Gryffindor? D'you reckon Mr Rosier would know if she was really ever in love with him?

I can't believe it, though. A School Governor - I mean, MR MALFOY, and Miss Professor Carrow duelling in the CORRIDORS! If they weren't both so well deadly, I'd say the Headmistress ought to give them both a detention! Ha-ha!
alt_padma: (History Club)
I thought History Club went really well, don't you? I'm glad we decided to focus on more recent stuff this year, I think it's well relevant compared to, say, wars from three hundred years ago or something.

I wish we were going to Hogsmeade this weekend instead of next! You've got your forms from Mr Rosier, right? Only Midgen hasn't got hers yet and she's been moaning about it for days. This morning she got an owl and she was positively beaming, but then it turned out it was just a letter from her foster parents telling her they'd had a note from Professor Acton. She'd written them because Midgen's marks are well lower than last year's! Her face got all red and I've never seen anyone go from smile to scowl quite so fast! At least they didn't send her a Howler, for her sake, but it would have been well classic if they had done!

Are you up for revising tonight or are you going to sit with Hooper again? Isn't it funny his taking an interest in helping you with Arithmancy like that? Well, it's making an improvement, whatever he's done. Only if you're going to revise with him I'll tell Thomas that it's a Ravenclaw Corner night. So let me know?
alt_padma: (Serious)
Lana,

I'm so sorry to bother you when I'm sure you're ever so busy in the training programme, but you probably ought to know that Orion's gone rather mad.

It started a little earlier this week. Well, I guess it started earlier than that, since Chang says he's been having some trouble for a while, and Chang finally made him go see Madam Pomfrey. I dunno what for. But I think it's something to do with, er, his -- Chang said he was having to go to the toilet a lot more often than normal. But I'm not sure what that has to do with why he should be so beastly to everyone! It's really his own fault if he's upset because Yaxley's cross with him.

And she is, terribly cross, because Towler caught him snogging Derwent. And Derwent said he's a cad and he told her off and said it was her fault. Her fault they got caught? I dunno. Well, then Chang said something odd yesterday about warning your brother that he oughtn't to have gone sneaking about with Chambers when she's had sore throat for two weeks. I dunno why Chang cares if everyone gets sore throat, though.

But anyway, he certainly got caught out with Derwent when everyone knows he and Yaxley have been spending loads of free time together. And Chambers - well, you know how she is. She's always trying to snog anyone, sore throat or not. I mean, I could believe she started everyone getting colds, but not Derwent. Well, the thing is, I can understand if he's upset because Yaxley found out, but honestly, he's driving everyone to distraction. Yesterday he threw everyone out of Ravenclaw Corner! EVERYONE! And he was so loud about it that Madam Pince came over and told we all had to leave, Orion included! Then he went and told Dames she could 'have it' but I dunno from the way he said it if he meant the Corner or the plague.

Please, no one knows how to talk to him and I'm afraid if he goes on like this he'll shout at a Professor, maybe not the Carrows but someone like Professor Lestrange, and then he'll really be in trouble. Can you talk to him?
alt_padma: (profile)
You'll never guess what Corner told me and Moon last night!

Seamus, he said he wanted you to know, but I don't think you've any lessons with him today. So he asked me to explain.

He said he'd been invited to go into the halfblood programme, that Sons of Wizardry thing that you're going in. Up until Friday, he didn't even know he was a halfblood - no one did! His mum kept it a secret even from him!!

I mean, I suppose we should have figured it out because he wasn't in our group at the YPL and because he kept trying to talk to Weasley when he thought I wasn't watching. But he swears he didn't know before now. So I guess he just had some back luck at the YPL, and as far as Weasley, I dunno, maybe he thinks Weasley ought to behave better because he's matey with Parkinson. I told him to just watch it since Weasley's such an arse. And now that everyone will know he's a half-blood he doesn't want to get lumped in with that lot, even more than before.

But imagine not knowing, and finding out that the person you've been calling your dad your whole life isn't really at all? I mean, it's like something you'd read in one of your mum's Sorcery Romances, Lav! It's terribly tragic, really, the whole thing. I guess his mum's well embarrassed about it, too - and really, she should be! What happened was, his mum was engaged to be married to this muggle and then she found out he'd been lying to her! He was already married to another muggle! Taught her a lesson, I guess - they really are animals, aren't they?

But then, she found out she was going to have Michael, only she didn't have a husband because he was a dirty great scheming muggle liar, so she convinced Mr Corner to marry her instead. I guess he'd been in love with her for ages, and he'd asked her to marry him a couple of times already, or he'd never have helped her. So he agreed to marry her and to say that Michael was his! Isn't that mad? And they never told Michael, ever.

But then it turns out that Master Gibbon, he's really interested in Divination, I guess. And so for all the boys in our year and second-year, he looked up everyone's birth dates and had their charts done (so see, it will be useful once you get to that), and he discovered that Michael was born before his mum got married to his - well, step-father, I guess. So he did a little more looking round and he found out that Michael couldn't have been pureblood. But I guess because of the timing, he wasn't sure whether they knew or not. But he wanted to include Michael in the programme because he didn't think he'd be able to pass any of the tests to prove otherwise, if he tried to join the Brothers of Purity later when he's grown up, and all. So Michael's mum wrote to him, told him what happened, and let him choose whether to go in the programme or to keep lying to everyone.

And obviously, he chose to tell the truth and go in the programme. Which I think is really quite noble. He could have kept right on lying and no one would have known, but instead he's owning up to the fact that he might not really be pure, and he's making the best of it.

If Karoline weren't already working on the Fall of the Ministry for our play in the spring, it'd be a marvellous thing to write about, wouldn't it?
