I can't believe that summer's

almost over. I guess with the time away for the CCF and all, there hasn't been nearly as much loafing about as usual. Which is probably a good thing, overall.
Not that there was all that much loafing about, even normally. But this summer, Pav and I were also helping in the shop. (Mum's said more than once that it would be lovely if one of us took an interest in the business.) It's fun, of course, but it's also a load of work. And Mum recently took on some more help, but if anything, going through the CCF training made things more efficient afterward. I dunno, I'm happy to help out but I'm still leaning toward other things. I think it's important that each of us does our utmost to serve the Protector the best possible way we can. I don't think clothes design is really all I'm capable of, is all.
That doesn't mean we didn't have a grand time designing! Mum's putting a few of our robes into production, even. I wish they'd been ready before the end of the summer but holidays will do. (It's also well strange to be designing things for winter when it's hot and for summer when it's cold, but that's the nature of the business, isn't it?)
Ginny, I think Purest Sparkle might even be interested. I mean, young clothes for the young witch about town? Mum's going to see about it, anyway. If you're still modelling for them that would be really snitch, wouldn't it?
That's not the only news we had this summer. Haruman's brought one particular girl round for supper about half a dozen times. Mum's holding out hope he'll make a Big Announcement any day.
They came tonight, too, but not to make a Big Announcement. Haruman wanted to talk to Dad about something in the papers today. Apparently a Healer that he works with occasionally at St M's turned up dead in Wales yesterday. He was really shaken up about it. Not because he particularly liked the Healer but because so many people have been talking to one another about whether it could have been a murder.
It's kind of disturbing and exciting at the same time, isn't it? I wasn't sure why anyone would want to kill a Healer but Haruman said that to know this Healer was to hate him, basically. And apparently he had a string of patients who were always complaining and Haruman was one of the Jr Healers who sometimes had to calm them down while someone else tracked Healer Stint down and well--he's not surprised if someone got cross enough. Or it could have been an accident, too. He was found at the bottom of a cliff, so he could have fallen (though it's odd he didn't Apparate away, if he fell, right?).
Well, anyway.
School starts in only a week! Has anyone heard more about the 'changes to Dark Arts' that Mr Malfoy mentioned? (I saw that and wondered if anyone had been mad enough to buy their books already--I mean, we've all been waiting to find out what would happen since Miss Professor Carrow died, right?)
Oh, by the way, for Ravenclaw Corner: We're meeting up in Diagon at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon. Seamus, Lav, if you want to join us that's fine. Pav and Su Li are coming too and my cousin Darshana, and Desai as well. Cooper, Bole, if you're interested, come and meet us outside Fortescue's.

Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 01:51 am (UTC)Was your brother sureThat's disturbing! I hope it was just an accident. Maybe he'd been drinking? That might account for his problems with patients, too.
I haven't heard anything about Dark Arts either BUT did you notice the post today from a Mr Dolohov -- he says he just returned to the Protectorate to 'be of service,' he seems to know everyone on the Council and his first PM was to the Headmistress. Maybe he's our new teacher?
Re: Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 01:59 am (UTC)I don't know if he drank. Do you? It sounds like you know who he was.
And yes, I think that's probably a safe guess about that Mr Dolohov person, too. We actually Floo'd Flourish and Blott's yesterday to see if the fact that Mr Malfoy said there'd be a new Dark Arts teacher meant that they finally knew what books we're supposed to buy. And they said that they were working on putting aside the stock and that they thought by Monday they'd be able to sell them. That's why Ravenclaw Corner's going on Monday, to make sure we can all get our books right away. You might want to see if the Strettons will let you go, as well.
If he's not our new teacher, though, I wonder who is?
Re: Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 02:31 am (UTC)I don't know whether he drank. I DO know who he was -- he worked some with CCF, actually, so you might have met him and he just didn't make any impression on you. Draco definitely met him -- Stint came up to us when we were walking around Cambridge last April (this was with YPL, I think? during spring hols) and butted into our conversation and annoyed us both immensely. After that I always noticed when he was there. Anyway, not that I wanted him DEAD or anything but I certainly understand why he was so unpopular.
Thanks for the information about the books -- I've been waiting and wondering. Philip Stretton needs his books, too, so I'll be taking him when I finally go to Diagon Alley. As far as the teacher goes -- so long as they don't find some previously unknown third Carrow sibling I'm not gong to complain.
Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 01:58 am (UTC)I CAN tell you who the new Dark Arts teacher is, and the book lists are going out so we should have them by the time we're shopping.
It's Professor Antonin Dolohov. He's on the Council, and good friends with Mr Rosier. I can tell you Mr Rosier is DEAD PLEASED, too, he says all the extra reading on Dark Arts I've done in the last few years was books recommended to him by Professor Dolohov. He's been on the Continent, working for Our Lord there, but came back quite recently.
Anyway officially it's still a secret but Mr Rosier told me and EVERYONE will know by tomorrow so I can't see as there's any harm in telling you now.
Re: Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 02:09 am (UTC)Perks was just asking, I'm glad I didn't see this before or I'd have been lying when I told her I didn't know but that I thought Mr Dolohov was probably a good guess.
What was he doing on the Continent, do you know? Something exotic and exciting like curse-breaking or was he a diplomat like that time Mr Malfoy went to France?
And yeah, I checked with Flourish and Blotts yesterday and they said they were trying to get all the books needed, so I figured we'd better get there right away if we want to be sure, because it sounded like maybe there won't be enough to go round. But they said that they thought they'd be able to start selling them tomorrow.
I've got so much to tell you, it's amazing it's only been a couple weeks since we've been home and yet everything's changing. So. Haruman really is serious about this witch but Mum's actually less than happy because she's not Indian. She's not going to say anything about that, though. And Dad told her that they probably should have just arranged a marriage a long time ago, when he was 13 like normal, and I can tell you Pav and I were both so relieved that no one suggested it's not too late to arrange matches for us!
But you see how I'm saying 'Mum and Dad'? That's because I guess they've been trying again. I mean, Dad's moving back in. He's given up the New London flat and all. I dunno if it's really the best thing for them, honestly. But. I guess they feel like they have to make the effort. Especially if Haruman's considering marriage--they want to set a good example for her family (even if she isn't Indian).
Well, I'll see you tomorrow. I want to hear all about Professor Dolohov and how the rest of your summer went!
Re: Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 02:36 am (UTC)Good news on the books. And Haruman! I mean, I think that sounds like good news, even if your parents aren't entirely pleased. It should make it a little easier for your and Pav if he's the first -- I mean, if you fall in love with an Indian then great, but if you don't, you should get to marry who you please, I think.
And even better news about your parents.
The rest of my summer has had TOO MUCH REVISING IN IT but at least I've got out flying a few times. I'll be glad to get back to school where I'll see my friends and won't have to do Conditioning every morning like in CCF.
Re: Private message to Padma Patil
Date: 2012-08-27 02:49 am (UTC)I guess we'll find out when we see the book list. And you'll have a jump on all the reading, so good on you!
It's good news about Haruman. I'm not sure it's wonderful news about Mum and Dad. Somehow I think they were happier when they were living apart.
I've been doing the conditioning, too, only not every day. I think we ought to continue it into school. (Actually, if Umbridge is running YPL and all, maybe she'll be doing the conditioning, too. She could use some!)
