I don't believe you! You promised not to go running into death-defying trouble again!!!

I mean, it's good that you got to Hydra, but I can't believe you got attacked by a teacher - again! And you could have been stuck down there for a much longer time if you hadn't been able to get out. And

Well. Don't think it's escaped our notice here in Ravenclaw that once again, you're in dire danger and who's right there in the thick of it with you? Weasley, that's who.

Don't you have enough sense to keep him well away from you both?

Skating was really fun! But cold. Belinda fell down a lot. But then I found a charm that gave the skates an extra blade, so they'd be more stable.

Stretton has been impossible lately. Ever since the Quidditch match he's going about insisting that we'd have won if he'd been on the side. And he's refusing to share any of the jams his mother sent just before the quarantine started. He says he doesn't want anyone contaminating them. But really, the purebloods ought to be able to share in them, at least. He won't even share with Davies because he's all sore about getting himself banned from the team.

I think there must be more exciting things to talk about besides wand maintenance, though. I mean, I know Professor Sinistra did her best, considering that we couldn't have the programme she'd planned. But I'm glad we went skating after, because comparing wand polish is about as interesting as watching silk cloth weave itself (and I've seen that at my Mum's shop, and it's not that interesting).

Maybe Professor Lockhart could give readings from his books? Or maybe we could each pick a section of the Code of Purity and talk about it and why it's important?

Well, History Club has kept going. Luckily Finnigan has enough books to last us a while. And there's always the library.

Oh, did anyone see the sign-up that Rhys-Myers put up about a new round of AK? I don't much think anyone wants to play, because they're afraid of being caught hexing in the corridors - and then Moran or Sandoval would Cruciate them! Just kidding - Sandoval wouldn't really. There's a list of the things that are really, really bad and might get a Cruciatus if you're caught doing them, and playing AK isn't on it. Still. I don't think people are very interested in running the risk.

TOTALLY WIZ-NIFT!

Only now Fawcett won't stop going on about how Marvolo sent that snake after Stebbins. (Honestly, he deserved it. I'd have done it too if Stebbins had said that about me!)

Do you think Professor Lockhart's alright? I mean, Professor Carrow really knocked him back with that spell. He still seemed a little disorientated even after they sent everyone out. I tried to help him back to his office but he told us all he was going to walk it off for a while.

Mum and Dad, what happened was that Professor Brutka and Professor Lockhart were going to start us, but then Professor Carrow said he would do it and he pushed his way up on the platform. Professor Lockhart was so gracious, really, and so was Professor Brutka, I guess. He just shrugged and bowed a little and then he sort of stayed around to watch.

Well, Professor Carrow and Professor Lockhart showed us duelling stance, only I guess Professor Carrow wanted to show us that in a real duel, you don't wait for the, um, niceties because if you wait you might just get killed. So he cast a disarming spell and it was really powerful. It was actually dead cool even if it was Professor Carrow and Professor Lockhart went tumbling. But he was okay. I mean, he got up really quickly. He was still a little dazed, though.

And then they had us all pair off, but after a few minutes it was utter chaos. It was kind of funny, actually. I mean, all that practising we've been doing with our manuals and it didn't really make a difference to anyone, much. Well, maybe Malfoy was doing really well. I couldn't see, because Belinda and I paired off and I know, I'm supposed to be working with Parvati but she was all the way across the duelling platform, so I really couldn't you see, and anyway Belinda and I traded off pretty well, but she bumped into Weasley and he's got that broken wand, and it went off. And it sort of made everything go really white for a minute. I'm not sure what spell that was, I'll have to look it up.

But then when I could see again, half the kids had their hair singed off or they were covered in boils and some were sopping wet, but Professor Carrow called everyone to order and Professor Lockhart said perhaps they'd better have one team demonstrate. So Professor Lockhart called up Marvolo and Malfoy. And that's when Stebbins said that it was no surprise they got picked, and then he said something really rude that I won't repeat, but it made all the boys nearby snigger and Professor Carrow sort of looked at them and they stopped really quickly, but then he said, 'On second thought, Lockhart, let's see what they do against a real opponent,' and he called up Moran, you know, the Head Boy, and he whispered something in his ear. Then he told Malfoy and Marvolo to prepare and WHOOSH! Moran made a great snake come out of his wand just like that!

Well, everyone tried to take a step back, except we couldn't because the people behind us didn't see it so they didn't realise we needed to move back, and we all sort of got jostled, and Stebbins stumbled forward because he's really clumsy on top of everything else, and he fell against the platform. And the snake went straight for him!!

Professor Carrow told everyone not to move, that he'd get rid of the snake, and then the most amazing thing happened! Marvolo started talking to the snake!! In snake talk, I mean!! Parcel Parseltongue. Like the Lord Protector and everything!

And the snake went. after. Stebbins!!! It was completely terrifying! Belinda and I moved away as fast as we could, but it was really hard with no room to go anywhere.

Professor Brutka made the snake disappear then, but goodness, it was exciting!

Fawcett's even more worried now, of course, but that's just mad. I mean, unless she goes and says something daft to Marvolo, what is there to worry about?

because DUELLING CLUB is tomorrow!

I can't wait. I don't even care if we have a quiz in Herbology or something tomorrow (and if you're reading this, Professor Sprout, please don't take that as a hint).

It doesn't even matter that Troy and Capper told me to go somewhere besides Ravenclaw Corner tonight, and that Morag wasn't around when Belinda and Linus and I went looking for her. We're back in the common room now, planning out all the spells we can think of. Moon says it's sort of like chess, but faster and you need to know ahead of time what can counter what.

It's going to to be so utterly nift. I wonder what Professor Lockhart will wear? I bet he looks especially dashing!

(Oh, and did anyone else read Fawcett's entry where she says she's looking for more charms to replace the ones she bought earlier? She's sure someone will get attacked before the end of the term - I mean, honestly, how ridiculous. I think it was just a horrid joke and whoever it was is too busy revising now to go to any more trouble.)
alt_padma: (Default)
We've just had Defence and Professor Lockhart says he's going to start a DUELLING CLUB!!!!!

It's going to be utterly, completely, and in all other ways WIZ-NIFT!

He said he'll have sign-up sheets out by the middle of the week. Oh, I can't wait! When d'you suppose we'll start?

This is going to be so much better than AK ever was! And with Professor Lockhart, who's just perfect to teach us all about duelling, too

(I hope it's not on Wednesdays. But even if it is, we'll change round History Club so that everyone can go!)
alt_padma: (Default)
Well, we had our first meeting on Wednesday, but only about half the people who signed up came. I think it's because everyone's been feeling so under the weather. I was going to remind people yesterday but then there was all that fire and mud business. I'm just as happy the Headmistress has told everyone to shut up about it, anyway--I mean, it's awful for Thomas, but imagine how much worse it was for Marvolo to have someone trying to destroy his mudblood like that? I mean, setting her on fire? Her hair's a bit like the tip of a torch, but really, it's not like it would improve by being on fire!

Anyway, we did meet, before all the excitement yesterday, and for those of us who were there I think it was really rather nice. The books Mr Rosier sent are wizard! Finnigan, thank him again, will you? I wanted to owl but I wasn't sure I ought to bother him.

And Finnigan is really, really nift at making it all sound much more interesting and relevant.

So we're going to keep meeting. It's still open to anyone in our year and first-years too if you want to get ahead.

We're meeting Wednesdays in the third classroom on the Charms corridor, fifteen minutes after dinner.

And did you see? Professor Lockhart is taking over Transfiguration?! Is there anything Professor Lockhart can't do? Now we'll have him three times a week!
alt_padma: (Default)
was Wiz-NIFT!

Professor Lockhart told Mum that Parvati and I are two of his favourite pupils! And I got to give him the samples, so he had the photographer take a picture of all of us together. And he gave Mum a signed copy of Magical Me, too!

We also got school robes (that took forever because Madam Malkin wanted to talk shop with Mum) and Sanji went to the joke shop with Dad and they got some silly cards, the spades actually dig and the hearts break and the clubs...well, you get the idea.

I guess we missed Marvolo and Malfoy, though, but I heard from Belinda that it was quite an event! The photographers went mad, she says. And Professor Lockhart gave Marvolo a complete set of books, all signed!! Well, I mean, he almost had to do, didn't he? Still, I'm sure that picture of Marvolo and Professor Lockhart with Mr Malfoy will be on the front page, don't you think?

Anyway, we've got all our quills and parchment and Parvati has a new bookbag and I've a new astrolabe, and we both got new jumpers and frocks for the weekends. And Mum says she's all set for the firsties to buy Robe Pets, too! We've got a whole box of them for the train.

See you all soon!
alt_padma: (profile)
Professor Lockhart said to me today that he wished he had known yesterday was my birthday! Thats just what he said too: 'I wish I had known.' And he said I'm about the cleverest witch in our year! And he wished me happy 'belated' birthday in front of the whole class! I thought I'd die I was so embarrassed!!

But it was a really nift birthday, anyway. Mum and Dad sent shoes and a new Solstice Night album and one by Ranjeet Mukerjhee. And we got earrings and a little tiny phial of perfume each, and real henna! and of course birthday cakes. And Haruman charmed some ice cream so it would stay frozen until we ate it. Chocolate for me and strawberry for Parvati.

It was brill I love birthdays.

Oh and Lav? I LOVE IT!!! Thanks again - it's utterly perfect.
alt_padma: (Default)
But my face and all are back to normal. Just in time, too! I didnt want to miss Defence but I would of died if Id had to go looking like a page out of an atlas.

Anyway, revising tonight will also be makeover night! Parkinson and Jones (at least, I think Jones) and Daphne told Parvati she wants to come, so she'll be there too and Belinda and Morag (because really, we have got to do something about her spots. It's bad enough wearing glasses but to have spots too? Ugh.

Though the spots are new. I asked her if she got splashed by potion on Friday and she said no, but her mum sent a package with transfigured chocolates and they made her break out.

Serves her for not sharing. Still, we can't have her looking like a mancala board, can we?
alt_padma: (Ravenclaw)
The revising club is really getting to be quite the crowd. I told Belinda that she'd better get a move on if she wants to keep her place with us. For one thing, it doesn't look well for a Ravenclaw to be doing worse in most of her subjects than Hufflepuffs or Gryffindors. But for another there's only so much room at the table before it gets too hard to here everyone.

Jones, you really ought to do something about your hair if you're going to keep coming, too. Since we have to revise somewhere outside our common rooms. Lav, why don't you and Parvati bring a few ribbons tonight and we'll see what we can do to make her more presentable? You are coming tonight, right? We've got that essay Binns just set us and no reason to put it off.

Oh, and Jones, did you want to borrow that extra pair of gloves for Astronomy tomorrow night? I've got a pair Mum sent that have the fingers out, so I can still work the telescope, but you could borrow my other pair. If you want.

(Lav, did Professor Lockhart tell your class what he told ours? About how it was a shame we didn't do Christmas pantomimes? I bet he'd have been perfectly wonderful in them!)
alt_padma: (Default)
Only Astronomy and Potions left. Two of my best subjects!

The Defence exam was so much fun! It was more like one of the quizzes in the Prophet than an exam. (Although maybe Professor Carrow's was more like the Prophet crossword.) I've never taken an exam when I was so certain about every answer.

And now only Astronomy and Potions. I'm not sure I'll be perfect, but I'm sure I'll be alright on both. I have a little revising, though, so Morag and I are asking for some snacks (I mean, if the Slytherins can get food, so can we!).

I can't decide whether it's better to memorise the movements of the constellations or to just focus on the maths. Morag's more worried about the ingredients lists.
alt_padma: (profile)
One was easy and one hard, so maybe that balances?

Herbology, of course - that was fairly simple. I almost forgot the difference between Devil's Snare and Flitterbloom, but at the last second I remembered how to tell them apart (aside from being squeezed to death, that is!).

Then there was Transfiguration. Loads of people were really worried about this one. And it really was nearly as difficult as I expected. But it was far more ... er, random. Not that I'm complaining! I mean, Professor Carrow does tell us that one never knows what life is going to throw at us. So I guess we should of been prepared for anything. I think the extra practice really payed off, though, because I know I did really well on the spellwork. Maybe not as well as Sally-Anne, but My textures were fine and my kitten's nose was perfect, I thought. (The multiple choice, though! I remembered most of it. I don't think he told our class about the fire crab and the scorpion, but I knew that story already. Though of all things, I wasn't sure what that question about his servant's essay was doing on there! I just said 'I didn't read that because a mudblood wrote it.' I hope that was alright to say.)

Oh! And I got an owl from Mum. All about the St Mungo's benefit party at the Malfoy's and there's a picture of Mum and Dad. They look smashing. I recognise the entrance hall from the picture in the Prophet. It's ever so grand!

Mum says Dad did fairly well at the roulette but then spent it again at the auction. He got a custom set of robes for Mum, to be designed by Madam Malkin, that he says is for her birthday, and which she says is just ridiculous. There were sooo many people there! I've been collecting the articles from the papers. You can just see my Mum in one of the photos.

But it sounded like they had a marvellous time. Lav, did your mum write about it? D'you and Parvati want to meet later after dinner and see the letter? We can revise for Defence if you want. I've got Professor Lockhart's library--at least that's an exam where we know all the answers and where to find the questions!
alt_padma: (profile)
Today I asked Professor Lockhart how soon he thinks they'll catch that horrible Black fellow who keeps invaiding our journals.

He said they were sure to find him and if he was posting to say that they haven't yet, it must be because they came close. He said that if he weren't teaching, he was sure he'd be able to discover Black's hiding place in a trice.

But my brother says Black's a dangerous criminel and he wants to kill the Lord Protector. Professor Lockhart must be very brave if he would go after someone like that single-handed! But then I guess he's done so many brilliant things that catching Black seems like its not much of a task.

I dont know why everyone is so worried about Potions when weve also got Charms and Transfiguration and Herbology to get through, too. I mean, Potions is basically following recipies, but Charms and Transfiguration really take concintration.

Morag and Belinda are getting much more excited about Christmas than their exams. I'm just looking forward to going home for a bit, even if Haruman will probably call me 'Parvati' just to be annoying and Sanji will not want to let me or Parvati out of his sight.

Lavender, did your mum talk to you about maybe sleeping over during the holidays? Mum mentioned that you might want to and that it would be okay with her.
alt_padma: (Default)
Tuesdays are wizard because we have double Defence class with Professor Lockhart.

We got our troll essays back today. Daphne and I got very good marks. He wrote at the end that we ovi obviously read the text very closely. We got bonus points, too, because I told Daphne to put in what colour his robes were during the Tunbridge Wells fight (and I was right - they were lilac). What about anyone else?

Padma Lockhart Sorry. Spilled ink.
alt_padma: (Default)
I can write in hear now because it's History of Magic this morning. Not in Charms, tho. (I lost five points Monday)

Yesterday was our Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson and I was planning to ask Professor Lockhart to tell one of his storys about fighting dark wizards but instead since we take Defence with Slytherin, Professor Lockhart asked Marvolo to come up and ecsplane how he (and Malfoy and Weasley 6) killed the troll on Halloween. That was almost as ecsiting as hearing Professor Lockhart tell storeys, only not quiet as ecsiting because Marvolo didnt make sound effects or play all the caractors the way Professor Lockhart does. Anyway after Harry did his show-and-tell, Professor Lockhart asked us to partner and write about Travels with Trolls and compare Harry's fight to his (Professor Lockhart's) defeat of the Tunbridge Wells Troll. I wowned up partnering with Daphne on the essay.

Of coarse, Daphne and me also talked about Parkinson. Daphne said Parkinson might be ecspelled if she doesnt toe the line. She told me how hard it is because Bulstrode is, well, practically a troll herself, and then there's Perks, and she hoped she and Parkinson might have more in common, but of coarse, Parkinson has been very disappointing as a roomate.

Of coarse, then this morning I saw Mr Malfoy's entry about Parkinson's mum, and I supose everyone is going to forget about ecspelling her because they feel sorrey for her. I'm sorrey for her mum being ill but that doesn't change what she said. I'm going to ask Professor Sinistra in our lecture today whether some one can stop being a Muggle lover just because their mum gets ill.

She's been ill before, to, hasnt she? Parkinson's mum?

Anyway, then last night we found out it was Michael's birthday and we asked the house elfs for cakes and they sent up tea cakes and tea, but it was fun and I couldnt tell if the tea was transfigured or not.

So Parvati, if you and Lavender get Professor Lockhart to tell a story in your lesson, you have to tell me about it later!!

Perks, if you want to talk to me about when the Ravenclaws are avalable to play, I've got a free period after Astronomy. (If you dont want to start this weekend because of Parkinson we can put it off until the first weekend in December.)

New Quill

Nov. 17th, 2008 12:27 am
alt_padma: (profile)
I've been having trubble with the first quill Professor Vector gave me. Today when I was riting something to Parkinson it went all wonky and I tried sharpening it, but then it split. So I cut it higher and than I didnt have enough quill left to rite wtih.

So I had to go get another quill from Professor Vector. She wasnt two happy but she gave it to me.

Parvati and Lavender and I were planning to spend the day looking thru Professor Lockhart's books so we cuold ask him to tell one of his storys in Defence this week. (I would ask in my lesson and Parvati and Lavender would ask in theres.)  But then MacMillan posted and I dunno, the whole day just semed to go relly quick.

Maybe Professor Lockhart would run that chess tournament thingy that Perks mentioned? He's so handsome I hope Michael enters, if Perks gets it going. Maybe Draco would have more luck, tho.

Lavender thinks Parkinson is relly wierd, but then, she knows the Malfoys a little better than Parvati and me. Lavender's mum is working on a party with Mrs Malfoy and its to be at Kensington and ever so grand. I think my parents are going, too. I wonder what Mum's going to wear?

Okay I think this quill works alright now.
