We just got back from ice skating this afternoon and I saw that Longbum had written to you.

Are you all right, then? I mean, it's been a week so...does that mean everything's okay now?

Will you be at the gala tonight? Mum said Pav and I could go. We're about to start getting ready. Then there's Diggory's Quidditch get-together next week and whenever Daphs decides we should all meet up about the revue. But what about New Year's Eve? There's a big party along the Thames and we were going to go out for a while, and find a good spot for the Lord Protector's speech (that's assuming He gives one this time! Which if you're all right, that means that Ireland's taken care of, right, so there shouldn't be any problems this time round).

Maybe we could get together, some other time? I've just been worried about you and it'd be great to make sure you're okay.

Love,

Padma

Why are so many people writing private messages to Perks lately? What, has everyone decided to pay her to do odd jobs for them?

And can you believe that Hufflepuff won despite the way Diggory was flying? Was it just me or did his broom look like it wanted to dump him out every time he tried to turn round?

Although, Samuels hasn't been back from the Hospital Wing yet, either, so I wonder if Smith didn't help that bludger along with something. Which he should know better, using magic during a match, but that's Smith for you, isn't it, always trying to play an angle. Honestly, I don't know what Diggory was thinking, letting him on the Hufflepuff side.

Has Madam Umbridge talked to either of you about her civics lessons? Because she did mention something about the first assignment to me, in passing, after exercise last time, and she asked whether I thought firsties and seconds would be bold enough to write to the right people about their questions. (Also, Seamus, she wanted to do something about Ireland for next time, maybe, and I told her to give you a warning if she could so you'd be prepared to help contribute.)

Oh, and Daphs' dance instructor's supposed to come up sometime before the next Hogsmeade weekend. I was thinking we might ask him to lead some social dancing in addition to talking about the revue. What do you think?

Where are you revising today? Because if I have to sit and listen to Davies go on any longer about how terrible Diggory was to Chang I may just vom.

He brought her round the Corner again this afternoon. And she's still telling anyone who'll listen that Diggory dumped her by journal and he's only thinking about his career and she's 'holding him back' according to what he told her and UGH.

I liked Chang much better when she wasn't such a watering pot. And Davies has been playing the supportive 'friend'--as if he's interested in her as a 'friend'! I hope she knows he's going to dump her too, as soon as something else catches his eye.

Anyway. I just can't go back to the Corner after Prefects' meeting. Where do you reckon we can meet instead?

I figure you're not likely to be flying today.

I've just been sitting with Marietta and Cho. Cho's a wreck, too. Can you imagine being broken up with over journals?

I warned that that Davies will probably come sniffing; he's just the type to try to nose in on someone getting over a breakup. I don't know if she'll listen, though.

Maybe finding someone to snog silly is just what she needs, anyway.

Did either of you go to Zach's party yesterday? Most of Ravenclaw didn't go because Diggory had just officially told Cho it was over and she came back just when we were about to leave. So we stayed with her.

But Lakshmi, I hope she's not going to stay this upset for long. It can't be good for her to make him think he meant that much.

Just wanted to let you both know that I talked with the other Ravenclaw Prefects and we're all planning to go on Saturday, so if Professor Dolohov needs any help with crowd control or anything, we're all available for it.

Oh, also, I told Dames if he really wanted to switch patrol on Wednesday I could do it, since we've got Astronomy that night. (In fact, it might not be a bad idea to ask 5th-years to regularly take Wednesdays, since that's our Astronomy night and we've got to stay up, anyway.)

Still cross about not making the side? Only you've not been your usual. You were really quiet at the Prefects' meeting.

Here's something to cheer you up: Why do you suppose Cho Chang was binning a perfectly nice bouquet of flowers just after lunch today?

Three guesses.

First two don't count.

And in other news, I heard that Letchley didn't make it into first string for Slytherin, either. And Anne says she's grounded for about four weeks because of that collision with Smith and Stebbins. (She said she'd like to have hexed them both.)

So maybe it's not such a wonderful season to be playing, anyway. With your luck, Stebbins would knock you off your broom at 100 feet up.

Prefects

Congratulations to the fifth-year Prefects! I got my letter this morning and Linus wrote to say he did, too. And then I got a letter from Diggory (congratulations to you, too, Cedric! And to Melinda Pennifold, Head Boy and Girl) reminding the Prefects that we've got our first meeting on the train to Hogwarts.

I'm sure we're all in well-organised hands this year, though understandably Melinda's distracted by Ned and Lana's wedding in a week. (I can't believe it's a week away! I'm putting the final touches on my formal robes today, too, since we'll be at CCF starting tomorrow, so they have to be ready. I hope they still hang right. It's only a week but given how much weight I lost last summer, with all the exercise and all, it could be a bit of a change.) Thanks again, Lana, for inviting me--and Professor Sinistra, thanks for making sure that the few of us who are going were able to leave CCF for it.

I've still got so much packing to do! It's times like this I wish mum would get us a proper mudblood but then, I guess that's what wands are for, too.

Oh, and I hope everyone was satisfied with the marks from last year's exams? I was a little disappointed in my Charms mark but I'm sure it's nothing I can't make up this year before O.W.L.s.

Remember, History Club is still planning to meet after CCF, but I heard that there'll be loads to interest us on the exercises, as it's an important part of the training this year to study up on the final years of Our Lord's rise. But when we get back, we've also got a walking tour planned in New London (we thought maybe Cheapside, the old cathedral and maybe as far as the Barbican site).

So who else will we see in the Prefects' cars on the train? I'm looking forward to working with everyone!

Mum said I ought to write and thank you and your mother for inviting me Sunday. So thank you. I guess she figured that your mum thinks we're mates or something.

Anyway, Gloss House is sort of nice, I guess. I mean, it's in a very pretty spot, isn't it? With the mountains and all. Did your mum make all those favours?

Oh, I don't know if you noticed, but Smith and Diggory and a few of the other boys kept nicking glasses of punch. The grown-up one, I mean. And I think they nicked one of your step-father's cigars from the den when you gave us all the tour. I know I saw Fleet and Bobolis sneaking off near the stables. Bet it made them really sick.

Do you know Lettice Frobisher? Her sister Vicky's in Gryffindor and Parvati says that Vicky's really sick, too. May not come back to Hogwarts she's so sick. Only not with Black's Plague or anything. Lettice was talking to Euterpe Bobolis and also to Chambers, and they said that Lettice is so worried about her - Vicky, I mean. Thin as a rail - did you ever notice? Her parents took her to one of those clinics, only not to reduce her more, to make sure that she eats and puts some weight back on. Well, anyway, Chambers was asking Lettice about Vicky, how she's doing, and they decided they'd go in to New London shopping and maybe find out if they could visit her to cheer her up.

And I thought, well, maybe some of the girls in our year might like to meet up in New London, too. It'd get us away from home for a while It'd give us a chance to do some shopping that's not in Hogsmeade. I mean, not that there's anything wrong with Hogsmeade but it's no New London, right?

Well, I asked my mum and she said it'd be fine as long as there's at least half a dozen of us (and it has to be even so no one goes off alone. Honestly!). And she thinks you and I are mates, so, she wanted me to ask you as well. If you wanted to have Perks along then once we're in New London, you know, you two could split off and do whatever you like, and we'd all just have to meet up later wherever we agree. Probably Fortescue's or something. So that if any of our parents pick us up or meet us, it looks like we've been together.

Mum's got this notion that if there are six or eight or ten of us it'll be all right and no one will abduct us or anything. But really it'll be Haruman who takes us and picks us up. He even said he'd take us all to supper, with some mates of his.

So are you interested? You don't have to say yes. I just thought you and Perks might want to get into town for a day.

Also I know it's April now, and that's really near to the time those girls got killed and Sanji and everything, and maybe you want something else to do and think about besides all that. I know I do.
