No, she didn't. In fact, I would say that her lack of information spoke volumes in itself.

Sorry to be mysterious, but I... I'm not really up to discussing it just now.

Barney and Josephina have been on the outs since Halloween, but I can tell he's waiting around to see who she asks before he makes a move to ask someone himself. But everyone knows that Josephina's convinced she can get Krum to break his date with the mystery girl and ask her, instead. I figure I'll see if I can save Barney the trouble of being stuck with whoever is leftover on the night before the Ball. Whatever his reputation, he is rather nice to look at, after all, and a 7th year, too.

Oh. I'm sorry, Daphs. It must be unsettling, especially if your mum isn't really doing anything to make you feel more assured about things. I don't mean to pry, you know, just--if you do feel like you want to talk, you know I won't tell anyone about it.

And who in school doesn't know that Barney and Josephina are on the outs? Honestly, their row in Hogsmeade was legendary. We could hear them clear up at Scrivenshaft's.

But then, everyone also knows Barney's well dangerous--and not just with his bat. I think Josephina's well shut of him, personally. You'd better go careful.

She keeps saying that she doesn't want to lie to me - trouble is, she doesn't have anything true to tell me, either! I think she's been nursing a bit of a fantasy all these years, too, and that isn't helping things.

Oh Padma, but you don't like Blaise, either, and I know how to handle him well enough, don't I? I know what you mean, though... he's got that beater's aggression, but the way he was with Josephine just seemed so passionate, really.

I don't know. There's something about some boys, where I look at them and think: "I could straighten you up and make you behave, I just know it."

I don't like Blaise because he behaves as if he's superiour to everyone and everything that isn't him. Or Slytherin. Or whatever.

And you and Lav feel the same way, I think, about bad boys. I dunno. I don't like someone who's completely stiff-backed, but...Grant was always trying to get me to do things, snogging and all, and well--it's just that it seems like it could really do some damage. Long-term, I mean.

And my parents. They may not be paying much attention lately but that'd get them utterly in a state.

Oh, by the way, do you know anything about the quiz Hydra mentioned a few days ago? Who's thinking of putting one together, I mean?

Oh yes, that's exactly how Blaise is, heh. But it's really part of his charm, when you get to know him better.

Snogging is brilliant, though! What harm could it really do? If you mean to your reputation, well, it's just snogging. And as for Lav, I thought she liked gentlemen. Or is that just what she's telling me, hmm?

I haven't heard anything about a quiz, so if Hydra heard that from someone, I bet she wasn't meant to. But she's the sort of person who could be listening nearby and no one would notice. I wonder if that's a technique her mother taught her?

Oh, snogging's all right. It's when they want to do more. And it's what people think is happening, you know? I dunno if I ever told you but Sandoval gave me loads of advice about making sure no one has an excuse to accuse you of moving faster than you really are. And her family's really traditional in a similar way to mine.

Lav wants a gentleman on the outside and a beast on the inside, if you know what I mean.

I dunno about Hydra eavesdropping, though. I just want to make sure if there's a quiz like that, whoever's doing it is prepared for the consequences. That's all.

It is true that people always tend to believe what the boy has to say about these things, no matter how much the girl's story differs. I myself am determined to find a way to get insurance against such an incident - when the time comes, I mean.
